Crestwood IL, residents meet about water, cancer issue Print E-mail
March 13, 2010 (CRESTWOOD, Ill.) (WLS) -- Crestwood residents had a chance Saturday to ask questions about a study that found higher than average cancer rates in their community.

A town hall-style meeting was held Saturday afternoon at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights.

Experts from the Illinois Department of Public Health, the EPA and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease talked about the findings.

The state looked at cancer rates in Crestwood after officials learned that, for 20 years, the village got part of its water supply from a well tainted with dangerous chemicals.

State health officials said at the meeting that there is not enough information to determine the levels of contamination in the water. So, they cannot determine if exposure to chemicals in the drinking water may have harmed people's health.
